A premium sneaker is still defined by its leather. So, when showcasing our vision on the future of luxury sneakers, this might be our flagship model: vegan leather LT 01. It’s made by Vegea in Italy from recycled raw materials such as vegetal oils and natural fibers from agro-industry. The result is a plant-based leather-like material that feels and wears just like premium calf leather. Vegea® collaborates with a distillery in Northern Italy who collects wine waste from local wineries, its supplier for grape marc. At the distillery they extract alcohol from wine waste for Grappa (traditional Italian after-dinner liquor) production. Post-distillation grape marc is then dried to avoid its degradation. Vegea® processes and purifies grape marc by using physical and mechanical treatments. In partnership with a European bio-polymers company Vegea® has developed a plant-based compound composed by wine waste (previously treated) and bio polymers from vegetal oils (mostly canola). The resulting compound is then brought to a coating plant where it spread on a backing textile.
