Description
The first shoe we made, and the reason the rest exist. Essence because there was nothing left to take out: a low tennis line, a clean toe, a logo you have to look for. We have corrected it many times and redesigned it never. Full-grain leather or nubuck on our Court sole, with an onSteam® lining. Wear socks: less friction, and the lining lasts longer.
Premium features
- Handmade in Portugal, in a family-run factory. Designed in the Netherlands.
- Nubuck from an LWG Gold tannery in Portugal. It takes in light instead of reflecting it.
- Strobel construction. The upper is stitched to a flexible base before the sole goes on.
- Every finished pair is inspected before it goes in the box.
- Between 20 and 40 separate components in every pair, passing through many hands.
- Removable memory foam insole. Softens to your foot.

Size & fit
Material info
Nubuck starts as full-grain leather, the strongest part of the hide, then the surface is lightly sanded to a fine, velvety nap. Softer to the touch than smooth leather, more robust than suede. Ours is tanned primarily by Curtumes Iberia in Alcanena, Portugal, an LWG Gold certified tannery, and every hide is inspected on finish, colour, surface and thickness before cutting. The nap deepens in tone with wear and builds character over time.
Care
- Brush regularly in the direction of the nap
- Protect against water and stains before first wear
- If wet, let dry naturally, away from heat
Collection story
Essence is the collection with nothing on it. No logo, no print, no mark of any kind, because the shape should be enough to recognise. It is where ETQ started and where every new design gets tested: if it needs a badge to work, it is not finished. What remains is the design.

Smart Trainer
My second pair of ETQ's. Smart looking trainer, interesting trainer and appears to be of a sturdy construction. They did cause blisters on first wearing which is unusual, but I did to 17,000 steps. They need to soften up a bit.

5 Stars — ETQ LT 01 Essence White
Had these for about a week now and they've made a strong first impression. The very first time I wore them out, I got a compliment on the spot — the crisp white finish is genuinely eye-catching and reads as more fashion-forward than most sneakers in this category. Comfort has been solid from day one — no break-in drama, no hot spots. So far they're holding up nicely with regular wear, no scuffing or yellowing yet on the white leather. Clean silhouette, quality materials, and it's rare that a shoe gets noticed and complimented this fast. Would recommend without hesitation.

The most beautiful white shoes you can find. But they do get worn out very quickly.
The white ETQ shoes have been a staple in my everyday shoe collection for over 12 years. But they do start to look worn after just 3 months... It’s just that I can’t find an alternative, because it’s pretty expensive to spend a lot of money on white shoes every six months.

A really good looking trainer, great colour and works well with many options - shorts, trousers, jeans. Definitely in that smart casual category. Only small issue is fit...having used the online size guidance and having gone with the suggestion the fit is a little tight....should have gone up once size.
