How ETQ shoes fit: model by model

Most ETQ sneakers fit true to size: take your usual size, and the bigger one if you are between two. Some models differ: the LS 05 runs narrow (one size up), the MC 01 is relaxed, the CB 01 and DB 01 sit close around the ankle, and the slides follow their own rule. We only make whole sizes.

The box arrives. You open it, lift the tissue, slide your foot in, stand up and take three steps across the room. In those three steps you know. Either it holds your foot the way a good shoe should, or something presses, slips or pinches. We want the first, every time.

That starts before you order. Each of our models has its own shape, so here is how every one of them fits, how to measure your foot, and what to do when you are between two sizes.

Do ETQ shoes run true to size?

Most of them, yes. Our low-top leather sneakers have a clean, close fit with a standard width and a slightly slimmer toe. Most people take their usual size, and the shape suits most feet, including slightly wider ones. Between sizes? Take the bigger one.

We only make whole sizes. If you are between two, it is easier to fill a little space than to add length: a slightly thicker insole or thicker socks take up the extra room, and the insole lifts out, so swapping it takes seconds.

How do you measure your foot?

Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall and mark your longest toe. Measure that length in centimetres and compare it with our size guide. It shows the length of your foot, not the shoe; the shoe has extra room built in.

EU US UK Foot length
39 6 5 24.8 to 25.3 cm
40 7 6 25.4 to 25.9 cm
41 8 7 26.0 to 26.6 cm
42 9 8 26.7 to 27.2 cm
43 10 9 27.3 to 27.7 cm
44 11 10 27.8 to 28.3 cm
45 12 11 28.4 to 29.0 cm
46 13 12 29.1 to 29.7 cm
47 14 13 29.8 to 30.4 cm

This table is for all our shoes except the MC 01, DS 01 and CB 01. Those three are built on a slightly longer last, so there is more room in the shoe; the size guide has their own table.

How does each model fit?

Why do loafers fit differently?

Because there are no laces to adjust. A loafer has to hold your foot on its own, so our loafers for men sit closer than our sneakers. They soften and shape to your foot after a few wears.

The LS 05 is a penny loafer with a close fit, narrower than our other loafers, so take one size up, especially with wide feet or a high instep. The MC 01 goes the other way: a relaxed, comfortable fit, so one size down if you are between sizes or have slim feet.

What about boots and slides?

Boots sit close around the foot and ankle; slides follow your sneaker size, up or down. Our Chelsea boots and desert boots soften and shape to your foot as you wear them. If you like thicker socks, take that into account: thicker socks take up room. We wrote a whole story on how a Chelsea boot should fit.

The SL 01 is an open slide with one wide strap that runs large: one size down from your usual sneaker size. The SL 03 has crossed straps and runs small: one size up. The straps soften after a few wears.

What if the size still isn't right?

Then we fix it with you. Open our returns portal and choose your new size; you don't need to place a new order. If your feet are on the wide side, look at the models with a standard width or a relaxed fit first, and read how to choose shoes for wide feet. Leather gives a little in the width as it settles, never in the length. So choose on length, and let the leather do the rest.
